Dj Suave's History
"I was born in El Salvador and have had a lifelong interest in music and sound. My career as DJ Suave kicked off when I arrived in Sydney, Australia. While still in high school, I was introduced to DJing and worked part-time playing at house parties, transporting my own sound system back and forth. As I gathered momentum, the transition to larger audiences was inevitable, and I added to my experience with gigs such as corporate dinner functions, school parties, birthdays, and weddings. After finishing high school, I decided to embark on an International Music Management Course.
My lucky break came when I was offered part-time appearances at clubs, which developed into regular weekend appearances.
Since then, I have worked as a resident and guest DJ in many clubs around the country, such as Vivaz, La Campana, Sangria Latin Saturday, La Vista, Latino Super Club, Rumba Motel (The Establishment), Latin Sounds, Salsa at Sophia's (Broadbeach), and Salsa Ball (Hope Island), to name a few.
I strongly believe it is not what you do, but how you do it! I am a DJ for two reasons:
I love music. I am not a turntablist. I can't scratch like Q-Bert! But I know what moves a crowd. I know what can make people happy, and that, to me, is the greatest honor and privilege.
I love what music can do. Music has been a tool for me over the last 25 years to do my life's work and spread my message: We're all equal. There is nothing like looking over a dance floor and watching people who are completely different yet, in this moment, blissfully united and spreading positivity. Music has the power to alleviate the way in which we feel and bring us together!
I have also gained tremendous experience and skills in Latin community radio. You do everything. You host the show, play the music (which comes from your own collection bought or from distributors), program and produce the show, interview the guests (sometimes in the studio, sometimes pre-recorded), handle the phone calls (sometimes right on the air), and it's all live!
This was one of the best experiences of my life. I met interesting people (famous and not) and got to share my love of music. It was important to me to also be sharing Latin music at a time when the mainstream wasn't playing it.
For the past 25 years, I have specialized in Latin Music (Cumbia, Merengue, Latin House, Latin pop dance, Latin Hip Hop, Reggaetón, Salsa, and Bachata) as well as in Dance, R&B, and Retro.
